Abraham Lincolnââ¬â¢s outlooks on slavery were constructed by the times and places in which he was raised and during his time serving his country. Slavery was an accepted foundation in the United States across Lincolnââ¬â¢s developmental years. Lincolnââ¬â¢s own feelings about African Americans and slavery were constant over the years; however when it came to his political positions and actions regarding slavery, they changed as the national situation changed. Lincoln had always acknowledged that slavery was wrong, but that it was accepted and mandatory for the Southââ¬â¢s economy. ââ¬Å"In Bloomington, Illinois, he stated ââ¬Ëthat southern slaveholders were neither better, nor worse than we of the north, and that we of the north were no better than they. And we never ought to lose sight of this fact in discussing the subject.â⬠ââ¬â¢ (Dillon, Amber. "Lincoln's Changing Views on Slaveryâ⬠) Lincoln first supported the idea that African Americans did not earn the same rights and treatment of the white men. His perspective of this came from his background and family. With Lincolnââ¬â¢s election to congress in 1854 and the start of the Mexican War, it brought the issue of the expansion of slave territory to the nationââ¬â¢s attention. With this, Lincoln created a coherent position on slavery. ââ¬Å"He was opposed to black equality and had no intention of disturbing slavery in slave states. However, he recognized that slavery was wrong and should not be allowed to spread to new states.â⬠(Dillon, Amber. "Lincoln's Changing Views on Slaveryâ⬠) This obvious alter in Lincolnââ¬â¢s position developed as he gained political maturity. Lincolnââ¬â¢s next big outlook change on slavery came from when he ran for Senate in 1858 against Stephen A. Douglas. Documents America's History) Lincoln expresses how he wants the nation to change the way they have been rationalizing throughout the previous years with the issue of slavery. He doesnââ¬â¢t want anyone to think he holds spite towards them for their previous ways of thinking. Lincoln wanted the Nation to come together as one, instead of two as they have always been. In the previous quote he said just that. Abraham Lincoln wasnââ¬â¢t born ââ¬Å"The Great Emancipator,â⬠though he became ââ¬Å"The Great Emancipator.â⬠Even though Lincoln didnââ¬â¢t particularly have an opinion on slavery in his beginning years, his opinion changed drastically over time. Lincoln always had the Nationââ¬â¢s best interest in heart, and that was made clear.

Leadership Distinctive Project
Most of us start out on lifeââ¬â¢s journey full of optimism and high hopes.à Life is magical; everyday is an exciting new adventure.à We get up everyday and go about our daily businesses, yet many times we do this without understanding why we are here, and what we were created for. This is because instead of leading our life, our life leads us.à We live life as it comes without a real plan, without clear thought and without purposeful direction.à And when we function this way life controls and ultimately overcomes us. Having a deep devotion to Christianity and commitment to Godly values helps us discover the things that give real meaning to life.à It also helps to develop the vital attitudes that will enable you to live it with joy and fulfillment and we can also lead others along that path.à Life may not be easy or without challenges but God has promised that in Christ we can have ââ¬Å"life â⬠¦..to the fullâ⬠(John10:10 Niv).à Think, you can impact or influence those that you work with whether in offices, business associates or in sports etc.à When you have a purpose driven life i.e.(Mathew 28:18-20) this is what life is all about; leading others to Christ. Someone once said ââ¬Å"life is what happens to you as you are making other plansâ⬠.à à We are here for a reason, God has not yet finished with us. Life has to be engaged, not avoided yet it is also a choice to live a life of sacrifice and self-denial for this is a mandatory condition for those who claim to follow Christ (Luke 9:23) saying ââ¬ËNoââ¬â¢ to self and ââ¬ËYesââ¬â¢ to Jesus.à It is so easy to live life on a shallow level, lacking in discipline, exerting more energy and putting more emphasis on worldly accomplishment that would not count for eternity.à The scripture teaches us that all these are nothing compared to knowing Christ and living for the sake of Christ (Phillipians 3:8).à Only the things connected to Christ will live forever, all others will vanish like smoke. God did not create us and left us to figure out life for ourselves but he has given us instructions through his word the Bible.à Unfortunately although we know better, many of us try to figure out life for ourselves rather than go by the instructions written by the maker; ââ¬Å"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.(2Timothy3:16-17 )à The Bible is the original ownerââ¬â¢s manual, telling us all we need to know so that life will run well, and broadens our understanding of God. In order to lead others, we need to commit ourselves to the scripture that it may guide and help us develop the grounding values of life and be able to help others in our society solve problems.à In many areas of our life, God tells us exactly what we should do, in other areas there are no specific laws or commands for every detail but there are principles to guide our actions and attitudes.à Study the scriptures, be analytical and learn from examples, good or bad of biblical leadership qualities.à Above all, Imitate Jesus who lived out before us the ultimate example of how to please God and how to live a truly fulfilling life.(1John2:6) There is no way you can broaden your knowledge or deepen your skill without letting other people in your life or collaborating with others in the community or those whom have the same values as you do.à We can be successful in other things, but unless we have people in our lives who are close to us, know us and tell us what we need to hear and not what we want to hear then our lives will be very empty. We need people to share with, learn from and give ourselves to or we will be lonely and unfulfilled (remember the immortal words of the poet John Donne, ââ¬Å"No man is an islandâ⬠).à You have to genuinely decide to like people and know that you need them in your life i.e. (Proverbs 17:17 a friend loves at all times).à You need the encouragement and wisdom of other people (Hebrews 3:13) if not so life will loose its meaning, sparkle and joy. In a Readers Digest (Sept.2002 pp.112-7) article, ââ¬Å"Friends the secret to a longer lifeâ⬠by Katherine griffin writes of a number of studies attesting to the health benefits of friendship.à She states that people with strong social network are shown to boost their chances of surviving life-threatening illnesses, have stronger more resilient immune systems, improve their mental health and live longer than people without social support.à We need people in our lives and God has programmed us this way.à We are made to need the love, support and companionship of other people.à Therefore, living a purpose driven life helps you find fresh hope, direction and inspiration to continue your journey on a glorious and triumphant note. Now we are in 21st century ,if we compare the culture which means the way we live,the way we love,the way we give respect to yelders and teachers,the food we eat,the way we dress,etc., of the 20th century I can say that the western culture is not dominating but going to dominate unique Indian culture. Today youth occupy most of the population of our country.Youth contribute to the uniqueness of any nation.Our nation has its uniqueness in its culture through the world.Most of the countries respect our culture. But for a doveloping country like India some of the western principles are necessary to make it dovelprd country.This reason is making our youth attracted to the bad part of western culture such as late night pubs,shorts,western music,etc which is giving them a great intellectual freedom. All these results in this present discussion of Domination of culture. Some of the citizens of the nation are supporting the western culture by saying that without the western culture no country will become developed.I agree with them up to some extent because a country should have to adapt foreign principles up to which the people of nation doesnââ¬â¢t get spoiled bi it. These include:. Feathers: They have a thick layer of insulating feathers, which are waterproof designed to keep them warm in water. So they can keep their body temperature while in the water, this is because heat is lost more rapidly in water then in air.. Body mass (blubber): Penguins have a thick layer of blubber under their skin, which stops the cold leading to he organs. This helps them from the extreme cold.. Flippers: They hold their flippers out from their bodies and pump hot blood to them so that they can act as radiators.. Circulatory system: This allows the main organs to be warm.. Blood vessels: Penguins have specially adapted vessels in their feet to help them cope with standing on cold ice. The blood vessels supply just enough heat to prevent the penguins freezing to the ice. The blood vessels carries warm blood to the feet, which are intertwined with those carrying the cold blood back from the fe et.. Huddles: Penguins intend to huddle each other when the temperature is low, this is to keep them warm, reducing heat loss.I f each of these factors changed they will have the following effect on the rate of heat loss:. Circulatory system: If penguins did not have their circulatory system to keep them warm, then their organs will be lower then there average body temperature.Method: In this experiment I am going to find out whether huddling reduces heat loss in penguins. Test tubes were used instead of penguins.I boiled water and poured approximately 50ml in to each test tube. I took the temperature on the test tube placed in the middle of all the test tubes. I then timed how much heat was lost in 5 minutes. I repeated this experiment 5 times, each time I increased the number of test tubes:. 1 test tube. 3 test tubes. 6 test tubes. 8 test tubes. 10 test tubesMeasurements:In order to carry out this experiment I used the followings:. Stop clock, to measure the time.. Thermometer, to measure the temperature of the water in the middle test tube.. Test tube, to hold the water.. Measuring bowl was used to pour the same amount of water into the test tube.Fair test:For my fair test I had to start at 0 seconds and finish at 5:00 minutes, this is because I needed the time to be exactly right, otherwise the temperature readings would be wrong.I also needed the amount of w ater to be approximately 50ml. This is because the measures of the heat loss would not be accurate.In addition the same stop clock and thermometer were used for consistency.Safety:To ensure safety I wore goggles through out the experiment. In addition hot water was handled with care through out the experiment.Prediction:I predict that the more test tubes (penguins) are huddled together the less the heat is loss. For example the amount of water I put in each test tube. I was using approximately 50ml. This might off affected the amount of heat, which was lost in the test tubes. To improve next time I will use exactly 50ml.For the experiment to be right we need to have a fair test, and in order to have a fair test we need some things in the experiment to be fair. For example we need the temperature in the beginning to be constant and the amount of water put in the test tubes. Also the same stop clock and thermometer. We the stop lock to begin at 0.00 and end after 5 minutes.However, in the experiment because of lack of time I was unable to carry the out al l five experiments in one lesson. This may have interfered with the results.

Emily Dickinson Poems At first glance, Emily Dickinson's poetry looks short and concise. Many of her poems contain just a few stanzas, and not many words per line. This might give one the impression that the poetry is not very complex. However, upon further inspection, a reader can see that Dickinson is not a simple writer. Although her poems are short, each word is carefully chosen and most have multiple meanings.An example of Dickinson's short poetry is Number 185. Only four lines long, it contains a powerful statement about Dickinson's beliefs and feelings about religion and science. She says that "Faith"Ã is an invention made up by man so that they can see or explain the world around them, but advances in science have allowed people to see things that normally cannot be seen and are therefore more valuable or prudent. The study was then followed by Lisa Mainiero, who further disc usses and updates the research conducted by Quinn in 1977 that paves way for an accurate comparative analysis to be drawn and clearly shows how the society has changed from what it was in the 70ââ¬â¢s to what it has become now. According to Robert E. Quinn, about 60% of people had either known about a workplace romance or were in such a relationship themselves. A more recent research in to the matter by Lisa Mainiero puts the figure at 76% and this only shows how drastically the numbers have risen. As professional life becomes more and more challenging for an average individual, it often renders them incapable of maintaining a healthy social life. As a result, people usually turn to people in their workplace in search for romance and hence, there are a number of repercussions that an individual experiences. (Mainiero, 1989) Hence, the most commendable fact about the researches done by Mainiero and Quinn is that their hypotheses are backed up by statistical evidences, which not on ly gives qualitative but also quantitative insight in to the subject. Quinn has further stated that only 10% of the cases resulted in increased coordination amongst the employees and led to greater understanding. However, in most cases the romance usually creates more problems in the working environment than benefits. Though, there may be some statistical variation but Quinnââ¬â¢s work is the pioneer and forms the basis for further research. (Mainiero, 1989) III. Study of Human Effectiveness The study of human effectiveness has a strong association with how one function in his or her professional environment. Professional growth is highly important aspect that contributes to self-actualization as hypothesized by John Maslow and this ideology was further propagated by his hierarchy of needs. Therefore, office romances not only hinder oneââ¬â¢s ability to view things objectively but also results in nepotism and widespread favoritism in the workplace.
